The white surface of fine silver metal clay is due to the arrangement of the metal crystals after they are heated, when they stand up and only reflect the white light spectrum. When they are flattened, they reflect silver. They must be burnished down in some way to do that. You can use a brass brush vigorously by hand, or mounted on flexible shaft machine or other motor tool, or use a ball burnisher, or simply throw them in the tumbler. I always brush them first and tumble after. That seems to do the trick for me.
